George Tsoumas
I was born in 1992 in Athens. I left Nafpaktos at the age of 18 to study at the Polytechnic School of the University of Thessaly from where I graduated in 2016 as a Spatial Planning, Urban Planning and Regional Development Engineer. I continued my postgraduate studies at the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens in the field of “Pedeostructures-Spatial Planning” from where I graduated with honors. I have been a scholarship holder of the IKY and the Andreas Tsara Foundation. From 2017 to 2019 I worked in the Municipality of Athens as a specialist consultant for Urban Development, while in recent years I have been active in business in the catering and tourism sector.
I fell in love with politics at a very young age as I realized that it is the only way to protect and improve the lives of the underprivileged. I was fascinated by student unionism as a means of advocacy, collaboration and shaping a better society.
I have been an elected member of the Central Political Committee of PASOK-Movement since 2018 and an elected member of the Political Council of PASOK-Movement for Change since 2022. From December 2020 until today I am the Coordinator of the Youth Network of PASOK-Movement for Change, while since September of 2023 I am Coordinator of the Peace and Democracy Network of the International Union of Socialist Youth.
In 2019 I participated in the International Visitor Leadership Program for young European Leaders of the US Department of State, while I have been a member of the Progressive Youth Academy of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation since 2018.
I firmly believe in strengthening Democracy, questioning every dogma, opening up structures, data and institutions as building blocks of 21st century socialism. With these values we will march together with society in the battles of the future and we will win them.
